Following an extensive field survey, ASG Hope and Heal Foundation identified several key factors contributing to the high rate of School Dropouts in Urban Poor and Marginalized Communities. These include:
Additional challenges such as lack of safe and adequate learning spaces, frequent power outages, unreliable internet access, and low household income further hinder consistent school attendance. Many children, especially girls, are burdened with heavy domestic responsibilities that interfere with their studies. A critical concern is the absence of regular, nutritious meals; after all, an empty stomach rarely absorbs knowledge. Together, these challenges significantly impact learning retention, attendance, and academic performance.
In response to the learning gaps identified, ASG Hope and Heal Foundation has established digital and in-person E-learning Centres within bastis (urban slums), offering remedial education support to school-going children. Sessions are conducted through Zoom and other digital platforms. During exam periods, our dedicated volunteer teachers also visit the bastis to provide hands-on academic assistance, motivation, and mentorship.
These learning interventions are complemented by:
Our ongoing community engagement has led to a notable increase in parental involvement, helping families understand that education is a powerful tool to break the cycle of poverty and marginalization.
Our volunteer educators offer personalized academic support, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in a safe, encouraging environment.
We also focus on life skills development through:
Our ultimate goal is to reduce fear and anxiety around schooling, increase retention, and promote new admissions with support from like-minded NGOs and local self-help groups.
